One drop of liquid = potential disaster
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Maybe even less than a drop. I splashed a drop of tea on the trackpad. I quickly dabbed it up with a cotton rag. I thought I got it all, but when I tried to use it I noticed it was still a bit damp. I wiped up the residue and at this point (or maybe when I tried using it with my fingers) an invisibly small amount of liquid got into contact with the crack at the edge of the trackpad and seeped inside by capillary action. Since then the trackpad no longer has any effect on software when it clicks. It's still under warranty. I haven't brought it in to the 'Genius Bar' yet; but the warranty expressly denies coverage for water damage. If I end up getting charged for repairs (hundreds of dollars according to my research, thanks to the difficult of reaching the trackpad with the new models' 'unibody construction') this review will remain. If they pay for it, I will come back and edit my review accordingly. I'll keep you posted.

Great Machine with a few exceptions
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Unibody is really cool and the construction and feel of this machine are unrivaled. A few of the things I don't quite like are the fact that iMovie doesn't let you import raw AVCHD files from an external drive. It has to be from the camcorder...phssst whats up with that? And one other sort of lame thing is the mini display port means your existing hdmi or dvi cables will need yet another accessory to connect. But it could be seen as a good thing because the form factor of the port is small and allows for a flexible connection.

Screen is bright, but if you don't like glare get the anti glare coating...

Gorgeous laptop!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is amazing laptop! Gorgeous display, extremely useful trackpad, powerful CPU, lots of RAM, very solid feel (because of unibody aluminum frame).
I was afraid that there would be lots of glare on this glossy glass screen, but it turned out that you don't see any glares if you use laptop indoors and we use it indoors only. Also it is so nice and easy to wipe this glass screen!
We really liked software which comes out of the box. Mac OS X Snow Leopard is so quick and so handy! And iLife 09 is just brilliant. We really liked the way iPhoto recognizes faces and with this feature we sorted out all our photo collection - thats awesome!
This laptop is great for home, but it is as well great for work. We installed Adobe CS3 suite (I just don't have CS4 yet) and iWork 09. These things work really well!
We bought this model because we need reasonably large screen and high performance to work with Adobe Flash/In Design and so on, but at the same time we wished laptop to be rather lightweight. This model fits our expectations really well.
And we didn't choose 15" with better graphic chip, because we don't play games.

Very good but not quite great
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
A bit over priced the screen and keyboard are great Would be better if it had more RAM and it has gotten very slow and I have only used 50GB of the 250GB HD space. The lap top gets very hot when on your lap and tends to overheat so I as I did I suggest you get an application where you can control the fan speed which helps. Operating system is very good.

Apple has done it again
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my second laptop from apple and I love it.

To be clear, I have the 2.66 15 inch model with an ANTI-Glare screen.

Case and Keyboard-

Pros: Apple really did a great job designing this laptop. The black keys are beautiful and match the rest of the laptop. The case looks and even feels great. The Anti glare screen is the same color as the rest of the laptop (Aluminum) but there is a beautiful black trim around it. When closing the laptop magnets keep the screen firmly closed, a really nice touch.

Cons: The only really con I can think of is the placement of the USB and Firewire ports. They are all on the same side which becomes very cluttered when having multiple connections. Personally, I constantly have every port used so this is somewhat of a problem. The positives definitely outweigh this small negative.

Anti Glare Screen-

Pros: Does it's job, no reflection and still works great.

Cons: Nothing, its only $50 for the upgrade, do it.

Performance-

Pros: I am a video editor and this thing flies whether you are using final cut pro or avid.

Cons: None

Trackpad-

Pros: This trackpad is really fun. Apple really has the best technology when it comes touch surfaces. Expose feature works great and the pad is fully customizable with 3rd party software.

Cons: Sure, its great that you can push down anywhere on the pad, but it takes some effort to do this.

Operating System-

Pros: Most agree that Mac OsX is the strongest operating system out there. But if you prefer to use both, bootcamp works FLAWLESSLY. (other than having your typical windows problems)

Cons: This is obviously a very subjective area. Some might say the lack of program integration is a negative, but bootcamp solves that. Some might say apple doesn't many programs, but search the web for a couple minutes and you'll find otherwise. So I can honestly say the OS has no significant cons.

Customer Service-

Pros: Apple has the best customer service in the world. As long as you are nice to them they will take care of you. I would highly recommend the 3 year warranty because like anything, things break.

Cons: Very expensive to have things fixed (by apple) without the warranty. You wouldn't drive a car without insurance, just buy the warranty.

Overall: Incredible laptop, incredible performance, you will not be disappointed.

Best Money I've Spent in awhile.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this laptop, it is my first laptop and mac. I was going back and fourth between waiting for the new macbook pro with the new i3,5, or 7 chips or just buying this one. I got tired of the release date rumors and really needed a laptop so I decided to get this one. I love it! Trackpad is brilliant once you actually figure out all the finger movements. Great Screen display and smooth feeling keyboard. I would recommend to anybody wanting a nice and easy to use laptop.

BEWARE - Sharp corners, bad hand position ruined this purchase
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I decided it was time to replace my 4 year old Macbook Pro 15" for a snazzy new unibody 15" Macbook Pro.
Spent alot of time at the Apple store checking them out (ultimately a bad environment for this!) before I decided on a new 15" - then ordered it from Amazon.

Of all things I never thought it would be the design of an Apple that would make me return it.

Once i got it home and started using it I noticed that the lower top front aluminum edges of the keyboard part of the machine where you rest your hands are pretty sharp and have no give - feels like a hardened machined car part. It wasnt long before i noticed my lower palm start to hurt like i was pressing against a dull knife. Full disclosure - i have big hands (not huge) so the positioning just didnt work for me, though others may have no problem with it.

In addition I asked my wife to try it just to make sure i wasnt making too much of it. When she went to put her hands down operate the track pad she was lightly stabbed (no blood or anything) on the small corners of the indent where you lift the lid. Its that sharp!!!

Add to that the glossy screen which REALLY REFLECTS outside lighting/shadows and I new it I couldn't keep it (not for $1800 purchase price!!!)

Its a real bummer as all the new Apple models except the low end white one have the same issues - Im not a PC guy anymore so Im not sure what I'm going to buy now. Hackintosh anyone???

Bummed.

Add to that the glossy screen which REALLY REFLECTS outside lighting/shadows and I new it I couldn’t keep it (not for $1800 purchase price!!!)

Its a real bummer as all the new Apple models except the low end white one have the same issues – Im not a PC guy anymore so Im not sure what I’m going to buy now. Hackintosh anyone???

Bummed.

One of the best notebook computers on the market
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It does not feel cheap, and it is very FAST. This is a speedy computer in many ways. I run everything from iWork, iLife, Windows with Parallels, Microsoft Office, Oracle Database, FileMaker, Photoshop, Xcode, Visual Studio, etc. If you want a real computer (by the way, Mac OS X is a Unix operating system), this is the one.
