This netbook is adequate. It does what it claims to do… mostly. The battery is not really all that it is cracked up to be. I get an honest 6 hours out of it, which is good, but it is no where near 11. Like other have said the keyboard is chincy and the screen is not easily usable in the sunlight. But, for the price, this makes a great little brother to a good notebook or desktop. It is the perfect size for portability and is very user friendly. I have only had it a while, as it has only been available for sale for a short time, so I can not say anything for its durability. If you plan on using it as a netbook, the 1 gig of ram is good enough.

    Great little computer

I love this little netbook. It is small, but with the new Intel Atom N450 chip it has great battery life. We bought it primarily to take on trips, but have found it is also very convenient to use around the house. Just got back from a cruise and can say that it travels well. Nice and light and easy to carry in a backpack through airports, etc. All in all a very nice product.Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Black)

    Nice Netbook but…

Have had for about 2 weeks.

Overall, works decent. It is definitely slower loading webpages, running programs than desktop and my other laptop. Nonetheless, for the size and battery life it fills a niche. It is basically a websurfer, email checking, word processing, simple gaming machine that you can take with you and not get too heartbroken if it were stolen.

I am having trouble with running videos and would like some advice. I have tried to watch videos from [...] which work but are slightly choppy. I have downloaded a movie from Itunes and though it sort of plays, it is essentially nonfunctional.

What should I do to get these videos to work?

    Thanks!

Just got this netbook and it’s quite nice for the price. The only issue I have is the dc input; it is very sensitive to movement. Just touching it while plugged in can cause the unit to lose power connection. Maybe mine is just faulty but the connector itself is tiny and looks very breakable. I’m still trying to find out if it is a design flaw or not.

Just a small issue since I’ll mainly use battery power. Other than that it works like a charm.

    Great Product for a Student!

I bought this netbook about 2 weeks ago. The delivery was faster than was predicted, so I loved that. It was easy to set up, and the battery life is great. I bought it so that I could have access to a computer at school with all of my own documents and notes already saved on it. You probably do need a flash drive if you have a lot of data, but thats much easier than a larger computer.

It’s size is perfect for traveling in between home and class. I can just stick it in its case and then into my bookbag, and I’m off! I know a few other people who have Asus Eee PC’s and they love theirs’ too! (I’m actually typing this review on it right now)

I’m not a gamer, so I’m not sure how good it would be for gaming, but I do watch youtube videos every so often and it loads just as fast as my parents’ larger laptop.

It comes with Windows 7, so don’t pay any attention to reviews that say XP. 7 is really easy to use and I like the user-friendly interface.

    Keyboard Is A Real Disappointment
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I purchased this netbook because my husband and my best friend both have Asus netbooks and love them. I was excited about this particular model because it is a newer model and has a lot of great features. Unfortunately though, the keyboard was a deal breaker for me. The minute I started typing on it, it felt spongy and cheap. The whole left side of the keyboard moved with each keystroke. I thought perhaps it was just the machine I had received and considered exchanging it, but I read a few reviews online that mentioned a similar problem. The store from which I purchased it did not have a floor model and I think my mistake was buying it sight unseen. Although I wasn’t thrilled with this model, I think Asus makes great products and I would encourage buyers to look at the many different netbooks they offer–I decided on the 1005HAB and love it.

I bought this netbook as a present for my wife’s birthday as she travels internationally frequently and only needs e-mail microsoft office. She absolutely loves it as she can also remote desktop to her work computer while on the road.

The battery on this thing lasts forever if you close the laptop after each use. It also comes back from hibernation quite quickly. People have complained about Windows 7 Starter and while it is limited it is perfect for the netbook.

I upgraded the ram to 2 GB and it works very smoothly.

    Pros

    Amazing Battery Life

    Compact

    Well Built

    Cons

    None I can think of.

    Good for first time netbookers.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is my first netbook, so I have nothing to compare it to save my desktop. What I like about this is that it is so portable. I can place it in my purse or backpack and just go. The keyboard is large enough that I have no trouble typing with it. It starts up fast and I find windows 7 easy to use. The only complaint I have is that it only comes with a starter version of windows. To my way of thinking it’s the same as having a trial version. I did upgrade to windows 7 home which after taxes and shiping and handeling cost me $98.00. I downloaded comodo (which is free) instead of using Trend Micro Security which is trial software. The outside of the netbook does show fingerprints, but not as bad as some of the laptops my friends have. I haven’t tested the battery yet, but I’m expecting at least 8 hours before I have to recharge. The video cam is ok and comes with some fun features, but is not something I will be using much. The battery is small. It does not stick out at all. It does have a small rounded feature, but I don’t notice it. I bought this netbook because of the long battery life and the price was better than most netbooks I lookes at and the ones that I could compare it to had the same features, but only came with a two hour battery. For me, this is a good computer and a great value.

    Love it

I am a teacher and I use this computer inside my classroom. Here is a quick pro and con list:

    Pros:

    1) No fingerprints. Seriously, the finish on this thing attracts very few fingerprints. The finish is a lot better than the gloss finish on most netbooks. I really like design of this netbook.

    2) Fast. When it comes to netbooks, they all have similar specs. This laptop comes with minimal bloatware and windows 7 starter runs great. I don’t see the need to upgrade it. There was some concern about changing the background and I can say that asus includes software to allow you to customize it.

    3) Long battery life. I can use it for presenting powerpoint and playing some movies for an entire school day without plugging it in. I know this because I forgot to plug it in one day and didn’t realize I was running on only batteries until the end of the day.

    4) Quiet. Even on high performance the fan is really quiet.

    5) Single touch power profile adjustment. There is a button opposite the power button that you can use to adjust the power profiles.

    6) full size card reader. You can leave the SD in the computer without it protruding out at all.

    Cons:

    1) Gestures on touch pad can be spotty (works well in some programs with not so well in others). The multi-touch does not work properly all the time. I know that this could be due to human error, but I really think that it’s just spotty.

    2) Heavy. It’s not like it’s a brick, but it’s pretty back heavy (standard to many netbooks though). Let’s just say it’s heavier than it looks.

    3) Bulky plug. I picked up one of these (Notebook Power Cord, C7 Figure-Eight Plug, 1FT.) and it will cut down on bulk. I just ordered this and I will confirm it works when it arrives.

    4) Bright led. The one that is really bright is the one on the power block. It’s nothing major, but I could see this being an issue for a college student who uses a laptop in a dark lecture room. I would put some electric tapeGE 50958 Electrical Tape on the power block if I were still in college.

    5) Fn numeric keys are hard to use. If you are going to be entering a lot of numbers you may want something like this:Toshiba PA1390U-1NKP Slim USB Numeric Keypad with 2-Port USB Hub

    6) No optical drive. I bought this ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U (Black) so that I could install software.

Overall I really like this netbook and will probably buy another one for my dad who has been looking for a netbook to use for work.

    Not So Hot

I received ASUS netbook and charged it for 8 hours before turning it on. Did 2GB upgrade. Started having issues with it freezing up while shutting down and had to pull the battery to get it to turn off several times. Noticed the battery was 100% and showed 7 hours run time. Now after three days of use 100% is only 5 hours 3 minutes run time. Definately a problem here. Next problem is the screen freezing and going fuzzy with alot of horizontal lines whenever I switch to electric while using. Have to pull the battery again to get it to shut off. I’m sending this thing back…too many headaches.
