This ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE truly offers a 14 hour long battery charge. I was amazed that it took hours to loss charge instead of a few short hours. Most laptops only lasts a maximum of three hours and don’t take long to have to be put to charge. This netbook also offers a performance shortcut profile that makes a difference. Windows 7 works wonderfully on this netbook. The start up takes seconds instead of minutes. Portability is truly a bliss to have and this netbook offers it magnificently.

I had initial reservations about going from a full sized, full featured laptop to a net book. Since I’ve retired my computer needs have changed and I thought a net book could be a good fit for me now. I did much research and online shopping. My main requirement was battery life. I wanted something I could use unplugged for an entire day when necessary. I have been using laptops since they came out and have always been disappointed by having to plug them in after a couple of hours.
After the initial charge the first day, I used the computer as I normally would and 15 hours later I plugged it in so I could go to bed. It was still at 10% power! It has performed likewise everyday for over a month, I unplug it in the morning and plug it in at bedtime. It only takes about three hours to charge.
The computer is very well built and speaks quality in every way. The monitor is clear and bright. The keyboard is stated to be 92% regular size, but fits my hands better than my last laptop and I find it easier to use. The wi-fi is easy and fast to set up and picks up any network close by with no trouble. The 250G hard drive is larger than any I’ve had on previous laptops.
I cannot think of anything negative to say at this point. It’s all I want or need in a laptop at this time. After six laptops I’ve finally got one that’s truly portable and can travel with me. I couldn’t be happier. I LOVE It!

Three’s a charm

This is the third Asus netbook that I have bought. I had the first, a 904HA for a year. I did the memory upgrade to 2Gb at the time I got it. Only complaint at all was the backwards placement of the shift and pageup keys on the right edge of the keyboard. I bought a 1005HA for my wife at Christmas. After I saw that one I knew I wanted one with a 10-inch screen and a larger hard disk for me. After three weeks of usage I am very happy with the 1005PE-PU17. Going from XP to Windows 7 took a bit of adjusting for me but that is not a fault of the netbook… My only complaint with the 1005PE was the highly shiny screen that really bothered my eyes and made it difficult to read. I bought a generic 10-inch screen protector on eBay and that problem was cured. My 904HA went to my daughter, who is thrilled with it.

I love this little notebook I can take it anywhere at home in the basement while watching my kids or on my trips.The battery is yet to be tested I know that after a few cycles it should get stronger but with a first full charge (over 8 hrs), I got 9hrs so we’ll see if I get 14hrs as advertised. Great Battery

I travel on average 5 days a week for extended periods of time. I can watch almost 10 hours of video with this computer. After the ram upgrade, this thing is plenty fast. Just make sure if you upgrade the ram, don’t use the crucial upgrade or you will have issues. Asus recommends only using this chip. Hynix 2GB DDR2 RAM PC2-6400 200-Pin Laptop SODIMM Major/3rd. Over all I have no complaints about this netbook except for the claim of up to 14 hours of battery life. When I first got the machine I was surprised by how short the battery life seemed. I re-charged it thinking I probably imagined it dying really fast but I felt the same way the next time. After that I wanted to test it so I charged up the battery to its full capacity, unplugged the machine and walked away. Without even using the computer, the battery died in just over 5 hours. Using the computer, it goes a lot faster. …and it’s really slow to charge. This was all in the first week of owning this so it’s still brand new with very little software loaded onto it.
Don’t believe the 14 hours, I doubt it would even do that in sleep mode.

Just got mine this morning, love it so far. The shipping from amazon was prompt, with decent packaging. Everything was in excellent shape when I recieved it. It’s a beautiful little netbook. I don’t really see the sharp edges that some have complained about in other reviews. Seems well put together and sturdy, even with it’s very light weight which is a plus.
Took about 5-10 minutes to go through the initial setup and so far everything works like a charm. I’ll update later with further thoughts.
Initial reaction: Love it, well worth it, especially for such a reasonable price.
