Disappointed
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’m typing this review from my EEE PC 1000HA, which has the greatest keyboard EVER for a netbook! I wish I could say the same for the T91MT which I bought because it was an even more portable device. The placement of the shift key is ridiculous! I have to stop and look for it every time. And I have very small hands so it’s not the size that’s the problem. It’s the placement of the key. There’s also much less responsiveness to touch-typing. The space bar must practically have to be pounded on to get it to work. I often need to type notes to keep track of legal advice that I give on a daily basis when I am on call. I haven’t gotten used to the handwriting recognition yet, but I’m going to focus on working with that and I hope that will eliminate the need to type altogether.
I have downloaded the Kindle software and a few books. The light weight of the T91 makes it an acceptable reading device so I’m not sorry I bought it yet, but I hope Asus improves the keyboard on its next small tablet.
BEWARE !!!! TOO SMALL and FIXED BATTERY FAILS
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Asus customer service assured me that the screen size was roughly 8.9″ wide and roughly 6″ tall. Not 8.9″ diagonally. that makes it roughly 7.75 wide and about 4.5 tall. The keyboard is going to be the same micro size. I don’t know about you but I cannot hit one button without hitting 3 at the same time. The screen is too small to view most things. I am very disappointed. I have talked to customer service and they said there was nothing they can do to reimburse me for shipping but t “they will talk to upper management” about it. I live in Hawaii and the shipping was almost $40… so to send it back and get another netbook that is bigger will cost me almost $150. This is not to mention the $30 I spent on a screen protector (so the stylus does not scratch the screen) plus $10 shipping plus $10 to return it. This is a big pain in my butt. Asus has lousy customer support. Be aware also of other reviews complaining about the battery dying on them right after the 6 month warranty expires. The battery is fixed and cannot be replaced by the consumer rendering the netbook useless. BEWARE BEFORE BUYING THIS PRODUCT!!!! “TOO SMALL TO FUNCTION PROPERLY” AND NON_REMOVABLE BATTERY FOR THE CONSUMER!!! Would not have purchased this product had I known this.
Not Perfect – But Really Meets My Needs

First, let me get this out of the way: I bought the T91MT because I didn’t want an iPad.
In addition to the T91MT, I own an iPhone and a HP TouchSmart TX2. I am sold on touch computing, and find the Tablet concept fabulous and essential. I teach, and I use the TX2 and a projector as a substitute for a smartboard, so I knew that the tablet is for me. Unfortunately, the TX2 weighs in at around 5 pounds which lead me to looking for a smaller tablet. I wanted something lightweight, portable, and handy for movies and such on the run.
I waited until the iPad specifics came out, and I was intrigued but sorely disappointed. What disappointed me was the idea of a large iPod touch or iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone is a great phone, but it is a lousy tablet. I cannot check ebooks out from the library, I can’t access my Zune Marketplace, and I can’t tweak or customize it at all. At times, it feels like I am “borrowing” my iPhone from Apple because I can’t customize it. That is why the T91MT and full-blown Windows 7 was so intriguing. The Asus Netbook has been surprisingly nice.
The Good:
It is small, light, and very comfortable.
I can check out EPub Library Books, stream Netflix, and listen to Zune.
I can ink in Evernote and keep all my notes together on all of my machines.
I can tweak, customize, and install anything I want.
The Screen size is perfect.
By disabling non-essential services, Aero effect, using 16-bit color, and disabling bluetooth I get nearly 6.25 hours of battery.
Kindle App works great (would love to see inking).
Two USB ports and SD card slots are a major plus.
The So-So:
The machine must be upgraded to 2GB of RAM (I have done that).
The SSD drive needs substantial tweaking to ensure performance.
The Windows Install needs to be slimmed down a whole bunch before it fully usable.
90% of the included software is not needed/actually makes the experience worse (by fully customizing the machine, it can nearly keep up with my TX2).
The T101MT is coming soon, and it is bigger but faster – personal difference.
Bluetooth is available (I just don’t use it)
The Bad:
Palm rejection is non-existent (especially after uninstalling bloat) in OneNote and Evernote.
Upgrading the hard drive is possible but very scary
32GB SSD is small, must have 1 or 2 FAST SD cards for IE and Firefox Cache, downloads, media storage, and Skype Portable.
I am afraid of keyboard build – it seems flimsy.
Processor is underclocked, and it undervolts automatically when in tablet mode (there is a trick to get around this though).
Fingerprints
This machine is not an iPad and that is a good thing. For the comparable iPad, you will spend much more and get much less, and you will have no customization ability. My T91MT is running as fast as my iPhone can, and I have the same (and more) software installed on both. Yes, it is a half pound heavier and the battery will last 2.5 hours less, but I am more than happy with my choice.
I like this machine

I wanted something more than an ebook reader but would function like an ebook reader. This is great for enjoying ebooks and also lets me use my email program and others. It is sturdy, compact and light. I enjoy travel and this makes a great companion. There is lots more I can learn about how to use it’s many features, but I don’t have to do that to enjoy it. Lovely sound from the speakers and a really nice clear crisp display screen. Windows 7 is much friendlier than Vista, which I have on my other computer.
Ultra-portable, not a workhorse
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It’s great, I haven’t installed a 2 gig memory stick, but I’m not noticing any major slow downs. This netbook is not designed to be a workhorse computer. I’m using it to take notes in class, the handwriting recognition software is pretty neat, although it’s going to take some getting used to (my handwriting is fairly chicken-scratchy). The SD drive expansions come in pretty handy to double the storage space.
Try out the keyboard first.

I’ve had two different ASUS Netbook models, the EEE PC 1000 and 1000HE. The first one I traded in because of the placement of the right shift key directly to the right of the up-arrow on its keyboard, which resembles this model. That drove me crazy and I could not learn to distinguish between the up key and the right shift key, and I needed to have a portable, light, **typing** device.
I sold that one and with the 1000HE improved the keyboard layout, but I still needed a BIG right-shift key, and I really needed the netbook to do more.
This model, I appreciate the touch screen, which I would use. But do try it out first in a store somewhere, especially at this 8.9″ size (the models I had were 10″ screens).
At this size, as a buyer, you should be needing a light portable device that you do light typing and web browsing on and can stow it around. It’s more like an accessory, in that regard. Or a hobbyist device.
At this price point, you could almost buy a new, fuller-featured laptop, but hey, I don’t like how heavy they are!
ASUS was the fastest netbook I found. Worth consideration. Especially with Windows 7 bundled. Just try beforehand, is my biggest recommendation.
Sweeet device..;-)

I just got mine a couple of days ago, it’s been a sweet honeymoon since… I bought it for $380 (used) but in perfect condition (the original owner get it as a gift). Everything works perfectly. I’ve known that the CPU is somewhat weak, so I order the 2GB RAM from Amazon. But after a couple of runs (start up & shut down) I found even the standard memory is quite acceptable. I noted less than a minute start up (cold start) and less than 20 seconds to shut down. Wake up from sleep mode takes less than 8 seconds to a touchable window. Slightly faster than my MSI Wind U100 that have Win XP. So I still let my 2GB RAM sitting around until I found the time to install it.
The keyboard is tiny, but to be expected in this tiny device, I was surprised after a while I found it quite comfortable, so I wrote this review with it.
The dual touch screen (yes it’s dual & not multi touch, it can only registered 2 touches at the same time) is great. Very responsive & I don’t need my finger nail to use it.
The moment it was in my hand, I installed BSPlayer (free) to watch video, and as long as you don’t have many programs running in the background, this little device rocks. The video plays perfect and smooth…
So far it’s a perfect little device for me…
This is fantastic !! Everything I wanted

This is my first netbook and it’s really more than I imagined. The touch screen works very well in all modes and I use it mainly for reading in the tablet mode. The keyboard took a little getting used to due to its size but its very useable. The 32GB memory is working well for me and I plan to add another 16GB memory card in the SD Reader slot just for pictures, documents and movies. She runs pretty fast with Windows 7 Home Premium installed and is no slouch when playing installed videos and YouTube downloads. All in all I’m very happy with the unit.
MY FAVORITE (scouters out there will understand)

I have owned my T91mt for 2 weeks now and it is my favorite computer ever. As mentioned in several other reviews – it is not a powerhouse. But for the price to have a Tablet PC – it is incredible.
It does everything I need and more. I did purchase the memory upgrade – be sure you turn the boot booster off before installing (directions in the owners manual) and I bought 32GB of extra storage space. But with that it holds everything that my old powerhouse laptop held.
The only thing I am disappointed in is how the Windows 7 handwriting input works. I had owned a hand held PC in the past and was looking forward to have the “transcriber” type of input on this computer – you don’t – it is a bit awkward. Then my husband introduced me to “OneNote” it made everything better.
I will have to write a review for Windows separately (it is still a fabulous version of Windows – I would just like a different handwriting method). BUT the computer itself is FABULOUS.
Good concept

Nice concept, bought and used mainly as a pdf reader due to the inabilities of the e-book readers for handling pdfs, and it does that very well. Works very well well with Kindle for PC as well; really like the feature that you could rotate the display. Having the keyboard is nice once you get used to type on it, but it also serves as a very handy “stand” while you read so you don’t have to hold it but rather let it sit on your lap.
Could definitely use a more powerful processor, but runs win7 and office ok, upgrade RAM to 2GB seems to have helped a bit; PALM-rejection feature works ok, but not perfect. Display is obviously not as good in bright light as the e-ink screens.
Overall, a good product, depends on how apple prices its tablet, this one may need to reduce its price soon to be competitive.
