I initially ordered HP mini and was thoroughly disappointed with it. The arrow keys didn’t work properly. I did a research and found that Dell Mini 10 has way better features for approximately the same price. I requested for a exchange and Amazon handled it very smoothly.
I am so delighted with my Dell mini. The look and feel is awesome and so are the features. I think this is the only laptop in this class which has a HDMI which connects easily to my LCD HDTV. I am yet to use the TV tuner but other reviewers have mentioned that it works nicely. The 6 cell battery pack is very handy considering that I would be travelling a lot with my mini. The keys are nicely laid and the touch pad works fine.
All in all, for someone looking for a small sized machines, Dell Mini 10 should be the best choice.

This is my 3rd netbook and it is as fast as the other ones. Its not a laptop. So a little slowness is to be expected.
I was worried about the touch pad, but have found no problem with it.
It does tend to get a little hot so a cooling pad would probably be a good purchase.
I pick up 26 digital channels at home and they show beautifully. I am totally impressed with the digital tv tuner.
I am also loving the HDMI. I believe this is the only netbook of this size that has a HDMI.
The 6 cell battery sticks out a bit under the computer. It helps raise it up so that it stays cooler.
It boots up fairly quickly.
I find no faults at all with this computer.

Unit operated as expected although a bit slow. I would like to add more ram. Altough it works very well for my need of reading books. I think it is more full filling than a book reader.

For the price I dont think you will find a better mini. Out of the box it found my wireless connection right away and upon opening the TV tuner I scanned for local channels and it found a few. The picture clarity is nice and watching television is an added bonus. It functions well and as far as speed, it has done fine. Not super fast, but gets around the internet and does what I need it to do. You cannot upgrade the memory however-YOU CAN INCREASE MEMORY BY USING A MEMORY CARD-I inserted a 4GB and it instantly came up with something called “cache boost” and I alloted the amount of memory from that card I wanted to let the computer us a ram, (leaving a bit of memory for picture and file storage). The 6 cell battery is nice as it is a bit thicker than the computer so when the computer is on a flat surface it creates air space to assist with cooling. I ordered a mouse to go with this as I hate using a touch pad, so I havnt any review for the touch pad. Battery has been used for approx six hours so far, about to need a charge. You CANNOT customize your desktop wallpaper-its disabled unless you upgrade. Not important to me, but be aware. This has been the best income tax refund present I have ever purchased. I paid $320. I would purchase again.
Disappointing

I bought this Mini because I wanted something small with good battery life that I could carry along with me. In that respect it is indeed very satisfactory (or I would have given it only one star). Unfortunately, there is not much advantage in carrying something with you if it isn’t useful, and in that respect this laptop fails miserably, in my opinion. I have owned it for two months now, and after a determined effort to learn to use it effectively, I find that I will do almost anything to avoid using it. It is just an aggravating device to operate.
On the plus side — it is a very attractive unit, it is small enough to easily fit in a briefcase, it is quite light, the battery life is good, and the screen is very crisp and clean. When making my decision to purchase, I was concerned that the keyboard would be too small to be type on, but this has proven unfounded — despite fairly large hands, I don’t find it difficult to touch-type. I did install Microsoft Office and actually find that typing documents in Word is pretty good, especially when working space is tight — this is the only laptop I have ever owned that I can actually do useful writing in the coach seating of a plane, for example. Since it has a very good battery life, you can actually do some serious work on a long trip (if you are very patient, that is).
Cons:
The tiny screen and sluggish performance, coupled with erratic mouse control make ANY kind of work a challenge. The problem starts with the fact that the screen is very tiny and most software applications assume something much bigger. By the time you allow for the controls at the top and bottom of the screen, as well as sometimes to the left and right, one often finds one is working with inches of screen to display what one is interested in. I thought I would find this unit great for answering emails, for example, but it is instead quite aggravating for such use — trying to scan the inbox in Outlook or Thunderbird, for example, one finds there simply isn’t enough screen size to allow both the inbox list and the messages to be on the screen at the same time — it’s like trying to do everything through a keyhole. Since you can’t get all that you need on the screen at one time, it is critically important that you be able to fluently navigate around the screen. This is where the Mini 10 really disappoints. Despite every attempt to find reasonable mouse pad settings and and learning how to use the controls effectively, after two months of determined use, I still spend most of my effort just trying to position and size the screen so that I can actually see the things I’m interested in. The mouse seems highly erratic and often has a mind of its own — things fly around unpredictably and something that should be as simple as scrolling down a page of text becomes an adventure. I stated above that it is a plus that I can do useful word-processing in confined spaces. Even that is an adventure, however, and I have to be alert to the possibility that the cursor will decide to begin inserting my text somewhere that it chooses. You CAN write, edit, or read a document on a plane, for example, it’s just a lot harder than it should be.
I’m simply appalled by how sluggish this computer is. I’ve been using computers since the mid 1960s, and have never used anything this unresponsive before. Web browsing takes forever, and with the mouse doing random things, it’s really an adventure to navigate. Click on something and nothing happens for a very long time — so you click again, and then suddenly you’ve opened the screen twice. In a typical browsing session I spend one fourth of my time trying to get something to open, one fourth of my time closing unwanted things that opened, and about one fourth trying to position what I DO want so I can read it. That leaves only one fourth for doing something useful.
Though the screen is sharp, a lot of things are displayed really tiny. It’s good that the unit is small since, unless you have really eagle eyes, you’ll spend a lot of time holding the screen close to your face so you can see what that tiny text in the headers and entry boxes says. For example, the URL line that’s currently at the top of this browser page is about 1/16th of an inch tall — much too tiny to read at typing posture. You really don’t appreciate how many things are displayed at small font sizes until you use one of these. (There is a “magnifier” feature, but it is really cumbersome to use.) Eyestrain is a real problem for me with this unit.
The TV tuner I bought with this unit was money wasted. It takes forever to scan for channels, and I’ve never yet found a site where I can get more than one or two channels that aren’t constantly broken up. It doesn’t work at all in my car while it is in motion (though oddly, it picks up a little when the car is stopped at stop lights, etc.)
The bottom line for me is that I still haven’t found any good justification for having purchased this unit. It’s not even good for playing solitaire, since the mouse works so unreliably! I don’t know if other small models by other manufacturers are better, but I wouldn’t recommend this one to anyone. My wife gave up on it after a couple of tries. I now avoid it whenever I can. It’s a real disappointment and I’ll probably be replacing it soon.
Leather sleeve for / DELL mini w/TV tuner

Has anyone purchased a leather sleeve for this netbook they are pleased with fit? Read many reviews/sleeves and all the ones I like seem not to be good fit or safe to use without fear of netbook falling out. Frustrating no one pleased with sleeves. Do not want one with leather trim around mouse pad, they have the worst reviews,

It is a good machine for e-mail + web surfing. The touch pad, it is so different that it takes the tutorial, and then practice. I ended up getting an external mouse, $10. I ended up getting an external DVD as well. The whole thing was $450 USD. You can get a regular laptop for a little more, with internal DVD and normal touch pad. It has a HD screen, but it makes no difference unless you have an HD source coming in to the machine. I use it for the coffee shop, simple games, typing, etc. The keyboard is big enough to to type. The TV tuner works, tends to disconnect, you have to be in a good spot. It is a good machine for travel and basic stuff, check e-mail, take notes, work on that great novel. It would not be the best primary machine. If all you want to do it check e-mail, surf the web some, take some notes, it travels well. It is much better with the external mouse, it is a must (unless you can master the touch pad). The external DVD, that wasn’t really necessary. The battery is larger than expected, but I have never run out. I have watched TV and DVD. I type letters and such, look at e-mail, and it works great for that. It’s about as big and heavy as a hardcover university text book. Depending on the length of your trip, you won’t need the charger or the external DVD. Keep your desktop, and plan on an external mouse. This is a satellite machine to your desktop. I enjoy mini 10.
Pretty nice notebook

The battery life on the notebook is great, and I was surprised on how fast it was considering it was only a notebook. The only problem I have (which I was aware of from other reviews) was the touch pad. I’ve had it for about a month and a half, and still don’t have it down. Its very touchy on where you hit it, and sometimes puts the pointer in the corner. If any finger is touching the pad anywhere and another finger just taps it accidentlly, the screen magnifys or goes to another page or something. I tried adjusting it to no avail. Other than being annoying chasing the pointer around, its a good notebook. Get a mouse and problem solved.

I’m so glad I snagged this mini for black friday on amazon. The dell mini is an awesome laptop for its basic uses. It’s great for students who need to haul their laptop along with them everywhere on a college campus. This laptop provides very good basic functions. I feel like installing windows exp might speed the computer up… maybe. This is a good laptop for travel, it’s much lighter than my old 15 inch laptop. I recommend buying a small mouse and a laptop case for this laptop. This mini was worth my money and serves the purposes I need for note taking in large lectures and doing online homework on school campus.
